90 minutes of sleep improves decision making, strengthens emotional memories
Scientists have previously said that sleep plays a key role in the proper functioning of the brain. Research has now shown that a normal person can strengthen their emotional memories with rapid eye movement (REM) sleep. This effect strengthens recent research, according to which sleep calms the neuronal activity of the brain.
What is REM Sleep?
REM sleep is a phase of your sleep that usually begins about 90 minutes after you fall asleep. During this time we have dreams. At this point your muscles are completely relaxed. It makes you feel paralyzed.

Brain neurons remain calm during REM sleep
The prefrontal cortex is the part of the brain where most emotional processes take place. According to research, the pyramidal neurons of the brain remain strangely quiet during sleep with rapid eye movements. Scientists have never believed that any part of the brain would control its emotions during sleep, because it is not active. However, now research has shown that there is a difference between the sleeping and waking brain. Silence and REM sleep can reset the entire body system. This means that good sleep improves perception of right and wrong.
In such sleep, the message reached to the brain does not move forward.
During the rapid movement of the eye, the message is received in the brain, but the neurons do not carry it forward. Research has shown that neurons present in the brain that sleep in REM mode send messages to one part of the brain, but that message does not travel to another part of the neuron itself. This research has been done on rats at an early stage. Scientists are trying to understand human sleep from its results.
